Hi everyone! My name is Alex Liakeas and I am a senior at the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School. I grew up with a nanny from Peru, so I was speaking Spanish everyday at home growing up. The Spanish language and culture fascinates me and I’m excited that SET gives me the opportunity to not only help Mexican students learn English, but also help me learn more about their culture and everyday life. It makes me happy to see the same kids each week and to see the progress that each of them make. I hope to continue speaking Spanish for the rest of my life because it’s an extremely useful and beautiful language.
